Questions

Q: Will it be valid to give talaq via a Mobile phone?

A: As-salamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullahi wa-barakatuh.

Talaq (divorce) via a mobile phone could be through a sms, bbm or through a phone call. In either case the divorce will be valid. However, it should be confirmed that it was the husband who called or sent the message. If the husband confirms that he called or texted then the divorce would be valid.

Q: I urgently need to know when should Aqeeqah take place if the child was born on Friday at 4 PM. Should the Friday be counted as one day or not?

A: In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. As-salamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullahi wa-barakatuh.

The day the child was born should be calculated for Aqeeqah. Therefore, since your child was born on a Friday, the seventh day shall be the following Thursday.

Q: Assalamu Alaykum I would like to know if there are any rewards for doing the work of the Masjid, like vacuuming the carpets and washing the towels for the Wudhu Khana. Jazaakallah Khair

A: In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. As-salamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullahi wa-barakatuh.

Taking care of the Masjid is a praiseworthy act for which one will be rewarded. To take care of a Masjid and its affairs is a sign of strong and healthy Iman as is understood from the following adith: Abu Said Khudri Radi Allahu ‘anhu narrates that the Messenger of Allah Sallallahu ‘alaihi wa Sallam said: “When you see a person taking care of the Masjid then bear testimony to his Iman, for verily Allah Taala says, “Only those who believe in Allah and the Last Day frequent and take care of the Masjids of Allah.””

The following Hadith is narrated showing that a person who cleans the Masjid to the mere extent of removing a speck of dirt from it will definitely be rewarded for this act:

It is reported on the authority of Anas Radi Allahu ‘anhu that the Messenger of Allah Sallallahu ‘alaihi wa Sallam said: “The rewards of my Ummah were presented to me, to the extent that (the reward of) a speck of dirt a person removes from the Masjid (was also presented to me).” {Abu Dawud (126/1), al-Tirmii (178/5), Ibn Khuzaimah (271/2)}

Also, by caring for the Masjid, a person will be rewarded for carrying out the command of Nabi Sallallahu ‘alaihi wa Sallam as he has instructed in the following Hadith:

It is narrated that Aishah Radi Allahu ‘anha has mentioned: “The Messenger of Allah Sallallahu ‘alaihi wa Sallam has commanded that Masjids should be built in the localities and they should be cleaned and perfumed.” {Ahmad (279/6), al-Tirmii (489/2), Abu Dawud (124/1)}

Q: I was wondering what is the best thing to do with your first salary; do you give it all to your parents or give it all to charity? What is more beneficial?

A: In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. As-salamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullahi wa-barakatuh.

You may give your first salary as charity to your parents. You will get the reward of charity and the reward of maintaining ties. This attitude of yours will yield Barakah in your life. Consider the following Ahadith, Charity given to the poor is one and charity given to a relative is twofold, maintaining ties and charity.
